five wellness investments i’d make over and over again

Wellness is an important part of my life.

With that said, there are certain investments that, while more costly, are incredibly impactful upon both my physical and mental health. These investments are ones that I make on a weekly or monthly basis, simply due to the fact that the value they bring to my quality of life is priceless. Everyone’s list will likely look differently — however, what’s most important, is that you’re choosing these investments for the sake your mind and body.

High quality animal based foods

I believe that animal based foods can be exceptional additions to a nutrient dense, fiber rich diet. However, it is important that we prioritize the quality of these foods as well.

For example, grass fed, grass finished beef, organic, pasture raised chicken, pasture raised eggs, grass fed, organic dairy — and more. There is such a significant difference in nutritional value when choosing higher quality animal based products versus conventional — a nonnegotiable for me! When we’re choosing conventionally raised animal based foods, we are also choosing their inhumane practices as well. They are typically grain fed, which can promote inflammation, and treated with antibiotics and hormones in order to mass produce product. With that said, upon consumption of these conventionally raised animals and their byproducts, we, too, are consuming these components as well. I subscribe every six weeks to Butcher Box — a high quality meat subscription service that delivers right to my door. Choosing organic produce

I try and purchase organic produce as often as I can. However, more specifically, organic is most important to me as it relates to the Dirty Dozen. The Dirty Dozen is an annual list that is released by the Environmental Working Group every year around the produce that has been found to contain the highest amount of pesticides, herbicides, and so forth. It is advised, when possible, to choose organic for these specific fruits and vegetables! I always try to opt for organic in general, but for these fruits and veggies especially! Check out the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen list here.

My Peloton subscription

I love cycling, strength training, meditation, yoga, shadowboxing — I try to utilize every aspect of the subscription. Movement is a nonnegotiable for my day — having my Peloton and my little home gym ensures I am able to access exercise every single day. Meditation has also become a valuable part of my routine as well. Peloton offers a wide array of classes that caters to all of my wellness needs — depending on where I am in my fitness journey. Some days I choose low impact, other days I choose higher intensity or strength training, and on my rest days, I love to choose yoga and meditation. I am fortunate to be able to exercise at home and recognize the value it brings to my mind and body!

Baseline supplements

I don’t believe we need to invest in thousands of dollars of supplements but I do believe there are baseline supplements that are needed for general health — some of these include omega-3s, vitamin D3, magnesium, organ meat, etc. In order for my body to optimally function, it needs a wide array of nutrients, in balance, to do so. While it would be ideal to consume all my necessary nutrition from whole foods, this is not always possible given the changes in nutritional density of our modern food supply. That said, properly supplementing can help compliment a real, whole foods diet. If you need guidance on supplementation, let’s chat! Nontoxic cleaning and household products

While this is a work in progress, the majority of my products now are nontoxic which makes the environment I live in, that much more supportive of my health. We are exposed to hundreds of environmental toxins daily. The impact that this has on one’s health is immense as our liver and detoxification pathways become overburdened, preventing each system from performing it’s normal operations. By reducing one’s toxic load, each person is able to better support the body’s ability to inherently detoxify. My water filter

Tap water contains contaminants, including harmful microbes, pesticides, plastics, metals, chlorine, fluoride, medications, and other toxins that are harmful to our endocrine systems and overall health. Prioritizing high quality water is a must for me! My water filter is linked here!

Wellness is an investment. Whether that be in terms of time or in terms of cost, investing my mind and body are essential parts of my lifestyle and routine. While I don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on the latest and greatest in the wellness world, I do believe in a select few investments that I’d choose again and again. Choosing to invest in your health is the greatest investment you can ever make. If you are ready to take that step, let’s chat to see if holistic health coaching is right for you!
